A pump datasheet is the fastest way to check whether a model fits your duty. Here is how to read one, using the CDL32-40-2 (50 Hz, 2,900 rpm, 2-pole) as the example.
The summary block
- Flow range: 16 to 40 m³/h.
- Head range: 30 to 65 m.
- Motor: 7.5 kW.
- Best efficiency: 76.3 % at 28 m³/h.
If your duty lies inside the flow and head range, the pump is a candidate. Duties near the best-efficiency flow will run most economically.
The head curve
The main chart plots head against flow. The shaded band shows the recommended operating region. Running far outside it wastes energy and can shorten bearing and seal life.
Efficiency, power and NPSH
Three smaller charts follow. Efficiency peaks near the middle of the range. Shaft power shows the load on the motor, so you can check that the motor is not overloaded at the far end of the curve. NPSH required rises at high flow; your system must offer more NPSH than this to avoid cavitation.
The performance table
The table lists the exact points on the curve, from 16 to 40 m³/h, with head, pressure, efficiency, power and NPSH. Use it to read values between the chart gridlines.
