Reverse osmosis plants need a feed pump that delivers steady pressure at modest flow. In this example the duty is 8 m³/h at 110 m total head, clean water, 50 Hz, running 6,000 hours a year.
Why this duty is different
At low flow and high head, efficiency differences between pumps are large, and the pump must run steadily near its best point for years. A vertical multistage pump is the natural fit because each added stage raises the head without widening the pump.
What the selection found
The design check found 37 candidate pumps. The report highlights:
- Closest match: the CDM5-29, giving 8.03 m³/h at 110.2 m (+0.3 % flow, +0.2 % head).
- Highest efficiency and lowest energy cost: the CDL10-12, at 65.6 % efficiency and about USD 2,406 a year.
Reading the trade-off
The CDM5-29 sits almost exactly on the duty, while the CDL10-12 costs less to run. Which is right depends on the plant: a fixed duty favours the closest match, while a plant that may change flow benefits from the efficient pump with margin. The report shows both side by side so the client can decide with the numbers in front of them.
